FAQ

Questions and answers

What every switch in Yubi does, what leaves your Mac and when, and how her desk self, the AI apps and your account work.

Dictation

Which key do I hold?

Right Option to dictate, right Command to ask about the screen. Only the right side counts; the left keys do nothing, so you can keep using them for shortcuts. Change either key under Dictation. fn works too.

Apple or Whisper, which engine?

Both run on this Mac and nothing is uploaded. Apple's model streams, so the text appears while you speak. Whisper is slower and better at mixed Japanese and English. Whisper needs whisper-cli and a model file you download yourself; the app tells you where.

What does Language do?

Automatic listens in Japanese and English at the same time and keeps the one the model was surer about. If you only ever dictate in one language, pick it, and she will be a little faster.

Why does she appear while I dictate?

The small window shows her face and the live transcript, so you can see she heard you. Turn it off under Dictation if you would rather see nothing.

Does she talk?

Short recorded lines that ship inside the app. Nothing is generated and nothing is fetched. Turn it off with Let her speak.

What is the words box for?

Names and words she should always spell right, one per comma or line. Learn words from my edits adds a word on its own: if you type over a misheard word within nine seconds of a dictation landing, she keeps your spelling. Password fields are never read.

Where does my history go?

What you dictated stays on this Mac, under History. Click a line to copy it, clear it any time, or turn it off under Dictation and she keeps nothing.

Which permissions does she need?

Microphone, to hear you while you hold the key. Accessibility, to type into the app in front of you. Merging PDFs asks once to let her see which files you selected in Finder. She never asks for Screen Recording, because she never looks at a picture of your screen.

How text is written

What does Match the app I'm typing into do?

The app in front of you when you press the key decides how the words are written. A terminal gets them exactly as said, no capital, no full stop. A chat app gets them capitalized with no full stop on a one liner. Mail and documents get full sentences with proper punctuation. Everything else is tidied lightly with the punctuation left alone. These rules run on the Mac. Every app you have dictated into appears under Apps, where you can give it another tone.

What does Clean up text with AI send?

The dictated text, and only the text, goes to the model and comes back tidied. Never audio. It needs you signed in. Every send is listed in full under Privacy.

Asking about the screen

What happens when I ask?

Hold the ask key and say what you want done. She reads the controls and labels of the window in front through accessibility, never a picture of it, then clicks, types and scrolls for you. She asks you when the task needs your taste, and stops for your yes before anything that spends money or sends something.

What does Let her click for me change?

Off, she points at the control and you click. On, she presses it through its own accessibility action, the way VoiceOver does. The mouse never moves. Buttons, links, menu items and tabs only.

What does Show me what's being sent first change?

On, you see the exact text and press Send when a conversation starts, and again for each new request. The reads inside one conversation go without asking. Off, she sends the moment you stop talking. Either way every send is kept under Privacy.

What counts as a task?

One spoken request, however many steps she takes to do it. Free is 10 tasks a month, 5 a day, counted per Mac. Personal is 60 a month for ¥1,480, Pro is 150 for ¥2,980. Yearly plans are ¥14,800 and ¥29,800, two months free. Dictation never counts.

Which windows will she not read?

Password managers, never. Apps that draw their own canvas, such as Preview or WeChat, show her nothing but a frame, and she says so instead of guessing.

AI apps that use Yubi

How do Claude, Codex and Cursor use her?

With her plugin they work through Yubi. Each app asks you once per run of Yubi. They can read the window in front and scroll it. Every click, every bit of typing, every Return or Delete and every web address waits for your yes on her card. What she reads goes to that app and the company behind it, never through our server, and only a note of each read is kept. The AI app's own account does the thinking, so these actions cost you no tasks. Remove an app under Privacy.

And ChatGPT?

Add Yubi in ChatGPT (how) and sign in there with the same email as your account. ChatGPT asks you once per run of Yubi and the same yes gates apply. The one difference: what she reads passes through our server on its way to ChatGPT. The server keeps none of it, only which tool ran and when. Disconnect under Privacy.

Desk Yubi

What is her desk self?

A small M5Stack CoreS3 on your desk that shows every state the app goes through and says her lines through her own speaker. Hold her to ask, exactly like holding the ask key: the Mac's microphone listens, and every yes still happens on her card on the Mac.

Cable or wifi?

On the USB cable only short state lines travel and nothing leaves the Mac. Over wifi those same lines pass through our server, under a token the Mac handed her once over the cable; the server keeps none of them. Set up wifi under Privacy while she is on the cable. Forget all revokes every token, and she goes back to cable only.

Account and billing

Do I need an account?

Not to dictate, ever. Asking about the screen does, because that work runs on our server. We email you a link, no password; the page shows a four digit code that has to match the one in the app.

What does the account hold?

Your email, your plan and billing ids, a hashed id of this Mac, the addresses you connect from and when you ran tasks. Never what you said or what was on your screen.

How do I pay, and how do I stop?

Payment opens in your browser through Stripe. Manage billing opens Stripe's own page for your card and invoices. Delete account cancels the plan right away, erases your email, sign ins and usage from our server and your record at Stripe. This month's task count stays with this Mac without your name. History and the Sent list stay on the Mac until you clear them.

Privacy and your data

What is always true?

Your voice is transcribed on this Mac and never reaches a server. There is no telemetry, no crash reporting and no automatic updater. She reads the accessibility text of the front window only when you ask, and only while you hold the key. The full policy is here.

What does Export give me?

A folder with everything Yubi holds about you: your account from our server when you are signed in, and History, the Sent list, the log and your settings from this Mac.

What is Sent to a model?

Your last 100 requests to a model, in full: screen help and AI cleanup. Our server passes them to Anthropic and keeps none of them, so this list on your Mac is the only copy. Clear it under Privacy.
